If you’re new to the Twitterverse or just new to JMU (we’re looking at you #JMU19), you should know that there are a handful of awesome Twitter accounts out there relating to JMU or the Harrisonburg area. Of those, a few come to mind as being particularly important and JMU-y. The following is a list of our top 5 favorite JMU Twitter accounts, and while some of these may not be the most educational or useful things you’ve ever seen, they all encapsulate at least a small portion of what it is to be a member of the JMU community, and for that reason should have your appreciation.
JMU Love – @JMULove
When there’s no one around to answer your call of “J.M.U.” with a resounding “DUUUuuuKkkkkkes”, consider following @JMUlove. Since 2012 it has been a steady source of JMU pride-based pictures and retweets.
The constant positivity and school pride exhibited in this account will have you thinking it’s managed by a “F.R.O.G.” (and maybe it is). Mix in some current events and a few of those Harrisonburg sunset photos you need so badly, and you’ve got an idea about what JMUlove is all about.
JMUBananaEaters – @JMUBananaEaters
Have you ever had that “all dressed up with nowhere to go”-moment right after snapping a picture of your friend eating a banana, and you said to yourself “what do I do now?” Probably not, because you already knew about @JMUBananaEaters. But if you didn’t – we may have the perfect account for you.
It’s quirky, sort of inappropriate, and certainly not going to save your life, but once you follow them and get surprised by that first banana-eating selfie, you’ll giggle. And at the end of the day, isn’t that what matters? Besides, how else are you going to make your friends internet-famous?
JMU Party Problems – @JMUPartyProbz
JMU Party Problems is more than just funny gifs about the drunk bus – it’s also got a surprisingly good amount of current events that might one day stop you from getting a parking ticket, getting stuck in I-81 traffic, or from not knowing where free food is on campus.
Don’t get us wrong – it’s mostly a great source for pictures of jean stains on walls and odd happenings on the quad, but if you’re looking for a JMU twitter account that will be useful and hilarious, you might want to check this one out.
JMU Gossip Girl – @SpottedJMU
While maybe not as good for gossip as the name might suggest (a good thing, most might argue), if you want to know what’s happening on or around campus from a student’s perspective it’s probably best to follow @SpottedJMU. Yes, there is more than just pictures of lost keys and pets here – this account is filled with hilarious pictures of interactions between the student body and the local natives, updates on Quad Cat, funny finals week pictures, and a slew of other tweets that, while in a slightly snarkier tone than JMUlove, ultimately helps you to appreciate the school and Harrisonburg.
JMU Crushes – @JMU_Crushes
There’s something inherently beautiful about a Twitter account ready to play cupid (sort of). The concept is simple – JMU students send a direct message to @JMU_Crushes, and their words get anonymously tweeted. While it may sound like the Harrisonburg Craigslist’s missed connections section (and the content is basically a 140 character version of it) there’s something novel about seeing “Will Ford, please love me ” in your feed. If you need a daily dose of something aww-inspiring (see what we did there?) and you’re getting over seeing the same old puppy pictures, give JMU Crushes a shot. Who knows – maybe you’ll see your name up there. After all, JMU is for lovers, right?
Oh yeah, and a quick dart to the owner of the @JMILoveU twitter handle who is currently boasting a grand total of 0 tweets to-date. Time to let someone else have that remarkable handle #GoDukes.
